Life’s Boat
By Chris Oakley
This art work depicts a life journey across a dark ocean whose condition can be unpredictable, ranging from stormy to calm, with many unknown dangers lying below for the unwary. Fortunately, our sailor has the benefit of the lantern of hope hoisted on his mast, mermaids watching over him and sea gulls showing the way to a safe passage. The old man in the moon gazes down on the scene.

I have practiced as an architect for forty years during which time the visual arts were always a passion but only a part time pursuit. My art works were produced for friends, the walls of my home and to sell. No doubt my own architecture style can be seen reflected in my visual arts practice in terms pattern making, composition, colour, form and use of light. My art works range from painting to lino cut to photography. Painting can be figurative or abstract typically using bold colour and bush marks, Lino cuts are often a little quirky and playful and photography reflecting the over looked patterns, objects and humanity found within our urban environment .
